Introducing Irish Breakfast
In Ireland they just call it tea and it is drunk throughout the day but for the rest of the world we know it as Irish Breakfast and it’s the newest tea blend available from Red Leaf Tea.
The Irish consume more than 3kg of tea per person per year, more than any other nationality and their tea of choice is a blend of Indian Assam, Ceylon and sometimes Kenyan black tea leaves and is intended to be drunk very black and very strong with a splash of milk, a teaspoon of sugar and perhaps a biscuit or two.
Irish born writer James Joyce would begin each day with a cup of tea and we’ve based our newest blend on a traditional recipe that Joyce would have appreciated. Using a combination of Ceylon and Assam teas we’ve created a brew that is a deep red colour and a strong, bold malted flavour.
The Ceylon tea we’ve selected comes from the gardens in the low lying valleys to the south of the island. This fine orange pekoe is picked early each year where the drier weather gives the leaves a heavy, nutty flavour and is responsible for the signature taste of the Irish Breakfast tea.
To finish off the blend we’ve added a tippy black tea from the estates of the Assam region of Northern India where the low-lying tropical climate gives the resultant tea a bright colour and a mild fruitiness that compliments the bolder taste of the Ceylon perfectly.
