Choosing The Right Teas for your Cafe
So you're finally doing it, you're opening your very own cafe. You've spent months anguishing over the right coffee machine, the brand of coffee beans even the coffee cups but then you suddenly remembered that some people don't drink coffee they prefer tea. Maybe you'll grab a box of teabags off the shelf in the supermarket? Maybe even spring for the good quality ones?
Not so fast, preparing a cup of coffee takes time and costs money, more time and more money than a good quality cup of tea so instead of treating those pesky tea drinkers as second rate customers you should put just a little bit of time into making them happy.
But how do you decide what teas to stock or how many to stock? You need to find the right balance between offering options without overwhelming. We find that six to eight is the right number to allow you to have a good selection available.
As for which teas to stock that's a little trickier.
General consensus is that you want a couple of black teas, at least one green and a few herbals but that still leaves you with plenty to choose from.
The easy answer if to go traditional; these six (or seven) teas will work with any cafe or restaurant and be perfectly acceptable to any tea drinker you encounter: English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Peppermint, Chamomile, Green Sencha, Lemongrass & Ginger and optionally Masala Chai.
If you want to skip past traditional and try something a little bolder then how about replacing Earl Grey with the very popular French Earl Grey, boring plain green Sencha with Serendipity - green sencha with strawberry flavouring, Chamomile with Apple Cinnamon Chamomile or substitute Kensington Breakfast for English Breakfast.
If you want your tea menu to say something more personal about your business then you'll need to explore a little deeper and we can certainly help you with that. Contact our wholesale support team and tell them a little bit about your business if your need some suggestions or if you would like to find about about having your own signature tea blend created. We've already created unique blends for several Australian businesses including a Cherry Blossom inspired green tea blend for a Japanese restaurant, a black tea infused with orange peel and orange blossom for a cafe with Orange in it's name and a very Australian breakfast tea using Australian grown black tea and Eucalyptus leaves for a cafe popular with tourists in the Blue Mountains.
