Story

The Dutch East India Company originally created the Orange Pekoe name in honour of the then Dutch royal family, the house of Orange-Nassau, to describe all large leaf black teas and as a result of the royal marketing campaign Orange Pekoe tea swept across Europe. It wasn’t until the late 19th century that the term Orange Pekoe came to refer almost exclusively to tea grown on the island of Ceylon, modern day Sri Lanka, as a result of Thomas Lipton purchasing thousands of acres of tea gardens across thoss the island and bringing the tea to his British stores under the Orange Pekoe name
